Omega-3 Fatty Acids

Omega-3 fatty acids include ALA, EPA and DHA.  These omega-3 fatty acids are considered "essential" because they are not only essential to good health, but our bodies cannot manufacture them:  they must be obtained from foods or a good quality supplement.  Omega-3s are also a type of polyunsaturated fatty acid (PUFA).   So what's so important about Omega-3 fatty acids?  Well first of all, they have been shown to be deficient in many our of diets today, so since we can't manufacture them, many of us are low in omega-3s.  Second, they have been shown to help reduce inflammation in the body.  This in turn can be helpful with things like arthritis, asthma, heart disease and more.  In addition, the omega 3 fatty acids EPA and DHA in particular are very important for good brain health:  including memory, mood and cognitive function.  Children and infants with growing brains especially need a good supply of omega-3s in their diet.

Symptoms of Omega-3 Fatty Acid Deficiency

Symptoms of omega-3 deficiency can include depression, poor brain function and memory, dry skin, dry eyes and more.  Studies have shown the benefits of omega-3 supplementation for those with diabetes, high blood pressure, heart disease, cholesterol problems, arthritis, depression, osteoporosis, bipolar, ADHD, inflammatory bowel disease or IBD, asthma, macular degeneration and more.

Food Sources of Omega-3 Fatty Acids

Wild-caught fish like tuna and salmon are high in omega-3 fatty acids, but usually NOT their farmed counterparts.  However, even wild-caught fish can be high in toxins like mercury and PCBs, so you really need to be careful about where you get your fish from.  Many natural health care practitioners today think that most fish are so contaminated you would be better off just taking fish and marine oil omega 3 supplements.  In any case, when you are deficient in omega-3s, it is often easier (and less toxic) to get your omega-3 levels up by supplementation.

MOXXOR:  A Very Potent Omega-3 and Antioxidant Supplement

Fish and marine oil supplements can be a very useful additive to your diet, however, it is imperative that you look for one that has been tested to be free of contaminants.  In addition, many fish and marine oil omega-3 supplements out there are rancid.  This rancidity not only makes the oil less potent, but also makes it dangerous to your body to take over time!  Many other omega 3 supplements contain huge amounts of other types of oils and fillers, and very little fish or marine oil, so there is a big difference in potency.  Moxxor is a new supplement containing fish oil, New Zealand greenlip mussel oil, and a very potent antioxidant in the form of sauvignon blanc grape seed extract that is not only beneficial to your health in and of itself, but it also protects the omega 3 oils from becoming rancid.  We recommend Moxxor because of its purity and potency as well.   In addition, New Zealand greenlip mussels have been shown to have one the highest concentrations of Omega-3s on the planet, up to 480 times more effective than other omega-3s that are on the market today!

Many vegetarians think they can get all the omega-3s they need from flaxseed oil, however, it is often hard for the body to convert it into the form that you really need, so we do recommend that even vegans make an exception and use a potent form of fish oil in their diet like Moxxor.
