Arthritis
Osteoarthritis Affects 80% of those over 50!
How Vitamins & Nutritional Supplements Can Help*

Arthritis is America's number one crippling disease, affecting over 40 million people.  Osteoarthritis is the most common type, and comes about from "wear and tear" on the cartilage that protects the ends of our bones.  Rheumatoid arthritis is more of a systemic disease, and causes chronic inflammation of not just joints, but also muscles, tendons and ligaments.

Common Symptoms of Arthritis

Osteoarthritis is characterized by stiffness, pain and joint immobility.  It seems to get worse for many people during cold or damp weather.  Those with rhematoid arthritis have inflamed and painful swelling of the joints and even other parts of the body.  It can cause fatigue and digestive problems as well.

Common Causes of Arthritis

The overall cause seems to be a poor diet and lack of certain nutrients like vitamins and minerals over the long-term.  Many refined foods like white sugar that deplete the body of crucial vitamins and minerals, like calcium can be especially detrimental.  Prolonged use of cortico-steriod drugs or aspirin may also be implicated.

Vitamin, Mineral and Natural Nutritional Supplements

Herbal adrenal support, vitamin C, co-enzyme Q-10, calcium and magnesium, vitamin B complex and essential fatty acids can all be helpful.*  So can Ginkgo biloba, devil's claw, turmeric, chlorella and green tea extract.*  Mangosteen juice contains Xanthones, powerful antioxidants that have been shown to be natural COX-1 and COX-2 inhibitors (synthetic versions of these are in many anti-inflammatory prescription drugs).

Food Choices

Avoid refined foods that are devoid of vitamins and minerals – these just cause your body to become more depleted of these vitamins and other nutrients.  Also, some people with arthritis have found relief from symptoms if they cut out all nightshade family foods from their diets*.  These include tomatoes, peppers, potatoes, eggplant and even tobacco.  (Note:  ibuprofen is also derived from the nightshade family, and should not be used by those sensitive to the nightshades, even though it is an anti-inflammatory.)

Adding lots of fruits and vegetables that are full of vitamin C and other vitamins can also be useful.  Some people have reported relief, especially from rheumatoid arthritis, with consumption of tart cherry juice.*

Other Ideas
